On February 11, 2016 Fire Station 3 had a second grand opening, announcing the completion of the second floor on-shift duty facility. 

Montgomery County has authorized a proposed burn building funded by the Department of Fire Programs to be built on the Blacksburg Fire Department Training Grounds in Merrimac.
